Jimbo73 Posted June 10, 2007 Report Posted June 10, 2007 Hello all, I have just changed the battery in the Gal, and encountered 2 problems, little ones though. Problem 1 - The live terminal is not getting very tight. It is possible to spin it round, some force is required though, unlike the neutral which is solid. This may of been the cause of the original battery needing changing.. Any ideas on wether it needs a new terminal or there are tricks of the trade to help me along my way, and could this of been the cause of the original battery going down the pan. Problem 2 - I though I had turned everything off in the car, and when I had the live on, then connected the neutral threre was a bit of a spark. Should this of happened? The day to day problems of owning a Galaxy......But we lov'em.... Quote
big_kev Posted June 10, 2007 Report Posted June 10, 2007 I am not sure what your problem is with the live terminal.......its only a nut and bolt isn't it ? Yes you wil get a spark, some systems are permanently powered, alarm, central locking, clock etc. Hello all, I have just changed the battery in the Gal, and encountered 2 problems, little ones though. Jimbo73 Posted June 10, 2007 Author Report Posted June 10, 2007 Yes it is just a nut and bolt, but it never seemed to tighten up solid. There is still some play in it.... Like it is possible to waggle it up and off, although not easy,, unlike the neutral which doesnt move at all.... Hmm.... I was thinking about wrapping a bit of foil around the connection to ensure it tightened up, but though better off and just left it... The car is starting alright, but because of the not so tight connection could this build up heat and damage the battery, or will it not affect it? Thanks for allaying my fears about the spark...Forgot about the c/locking and alarm. Quote
Dave-G Posted June 10, 2007 Report Posted June 10, 2007 If your handy with a file you could enlarge the gap that the bolt tightens so that it closes further? Quote
Jimbo73 Posted June 10, 2007 Author Report Posted June 10, 2007 Will have a go at this... but I have just cracked open a stella, so no chance of getting back out to the car... Must be something simple though....Thanks for all the help.... Quote
Dave-G Posted June 10, 2007 Report Posted June 10, 2007 I cracked open a Stella once... took me ages to get rid of her afterwards  Quote
sparky Paul Posted June 10, 2007 Report Posted June 10, 2007 (edited) You need to make sure the clamps have a good hold on the posts. Don't forget that the terminal posts are tapered - thinner at the top. Open the offending clamp up and carefully tap it home onto the post before tightening the clamps back up. If the clamp has been overtightened and stretched at some point in its life, it may need replacement. Edited June 10, 2007 by sparky Paul Quote
